"A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." -Ecclesiastes 4:12b
Welcome to The Unbroken Cord, a humble offering to a world and a Church filled with so much uncertainty in these days. This site seeks to offer—in its own way to be sure—a way of thinking about the Church and the world through the gospel of Jesus. The gospel of Jesus is the confessional sticking point for Lutherans, and it leads you to see a future for the church that is filled with real, tangible hope. Until the Lord Jesus returns, we will always live in the tension of uncertainty, but the one thing for certain is that the Church—against which the gates of hell cannot prevail—is filled with hope.
In that vein, The Unbroken Cord writes in hope that we may give witness to the unity in the Church given by the Spirit who descends and not by people who ascend. Our life together is driven by the Spirit of God who places Christ at our center.
Here, there will be stories from Lutheran Christians that share their own experiences with hoping for a future. For the most part, we are Lutherans from The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Like every other church body struggling in the present uncertainty, the LCMS shares in that struggle. Here at The Unbroken Cord, we don’t claim to have all the answers, but we know at least this one thing: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear” [1 John 4:18a]. On this side of the resurrection, none of us have been perfected in love; so far the only human who is perfected in love is the risen Lord Jesus. It is in him and his gospel that we go about our bidding.
We’d love for you to give us a read and to share what you may find helpful with others. Together let’s place our hope in the gospel of Jesus and in His Spirit to renew the Church.
